How everything came to be

After graduating high school I went straight to costmetology school (just a break before I went to college) thinking it would be a good stay-at-home mom job one day. My first day at the The Hair Academy a Paul Mitchell Partner School, I found out hair doesn't have to be out of a salon, you can do it for fashion, photoshoots, and most importantly, film. Growing up, thanks to Hilary Duff I had always wanted to be a Disney Channel Star. Obviously that didn't work out, so I thought maybe I can do hair for one.. From that moment on I made sure I took every possible opportunity Paul Mitchell had to offer me, going to Vegas a few times for hands on classes and conventions, contacting their high up sources. Luckily for me, I chose a cosmetology school that is well respeceted and connected within the beauty industry.

The last week I ended up in Beverly Hills on vacation. I went to check out Paul Mitchell Headquarters where one thing lead to another and I ended up assisting Nicole Richie's hairstylist for a day in a salon in LA. I thought it was insane, where then the very next day I was able to assist at the Angus M salon (son of Paul Mitchell) in Beverly Hills! In the Paul Mitchell world, Angus M is HUGE! After assisting there, my driver (mom) picked me up and we went down the street to the Beverly Hills diner, where of course my mom started up a random conversation with a stranger about how great the food was. Did I mention this random stranger does hair extensions for Paris and Nikki Hilton, the Kardashians, and Victoris Secret Models? Just to name a few. She gave me her card and asked me to assist her!! I know right! What the heck? The next time I was in LA I was going to contact her.

About a month later, my mom came to visit in Rexburg, Idaho, where I was attending Paul Mitchell. I had been e-mailing some of my contacts, like Lucie Doughty who does photoshoot for several magazines and celebrities. She works with the Paul Mitchell company. In the e-mail I asked again, like I had in the past, if she had anything going on that I could assist her with. I usually got an answer like "not yet, keep in touch!" But this time she let me know that there was a shoot coming up in a week that I could assist her with!! Just less than one week. My mom was leaving to go home in just a few days, and I was still in school, broke. Luckily, I have the most supportive mom in the world, and she figured everything out for me. She resqusduled things at home, so that she could take another 8 days out of her life to help me get the best experiences I could.

We ended up driving to California a couple days later. I contacted Anush, who does the extensions, and assisted her for a day in her salon in Beverly Hills. The next day assisted Lucie with the photoshoot, and it was AMAZING! It was my first real photoshoot with a real set  and real models, real wardrobe (who had to leave early to do a fitting with Brittany Snow, nbd) real makeup artisits, photographers, etc. It was amazing, another nice 12 hour day, but so fun!

I flew back to Rexburg the next day, and my mom drove home. I graduated from Paul Mitchell in December, and in January went to the Sundance Film Festival, where I was the hairstylist for Park City TV. I not only did hair for the hosts of the morning shows, but also the celbs that came in for their interviews! My favorite was when John Paul and Eloise came in, and I touched up their hair. It was so funny doing their hair because JP would talk at those huge events i'd go to in vegas, and I admired him so much! Now he was sitting in my chair, and I was touching up HIS hair!! What the heck!! Another favorite was Ethan from LOST. I got to powder his face! That was pretty exciting. I met a ton of contacts at Sundance incluing Demian, who is a producer and director, filmaker, etc., from LA. He's worked on multiple movies, music videos, etc. His latest that he was at Sundance promoting is called Discover The Gift. It is about discovering your gift, and being your best self. I got to know Demian and his team, and now will be working with them on other projects! I met several other filmakers as well who have invited me to jump on board with them too. Which is where I am now, packing up my summer clothes and on my way to beginning my journey in LA
