Sunny in LA:)

My goal when I moved here is that I would run everyday since I live in paradise, and get a hot bod by summer. I'm coming on my third week now, and even though  i've been invited several times by my roommates, I haven't gone once. So, today around 5:30pm I was going to drive to the bank, but instead I decided to run! I live about 10 blocks from the bank, not too bad. I run up to the bank, and parked outside was an old, rusty blue car with duck tape keeping the seats together. Shady. I go in and ask  to withdrawl, and next to me is the man who obviously belongs to this super old, beatup car. He was wearing light wash old jeans, an old jean jacket with dirty white fur stuff around the neck, he smelled like smoke, and hadn't shaved in a while. He is withdrawling a few thousand. It doesn't look like he should be taking that much out, nontheless he doesn't look like he has the money anyway. He's kind of creepy. The teller asks me how much I want to withdrawl and I tell him $360, then he counts it out on the counter, where the creeper can see. I zip it in my pocket and walk out, worried that this guy knows i'm running with a chunk of change in my pocket. I know, it sounds like I'm begging to get mugged and raped, carrying that much going running? I continue to run home, it is dark now, and I get passed the busy part of town, where I am just running down streets in the dark, with $360 cash and my debit cards in my pocket. Luckily, I feel like a ninja in spandex pants and could probably take anyone who tried anything on me. I made it home safely.

I decided I won't name drop who's hair I do since they can view my facebook now, but I will tell you who I see on the streets!
I love working in Beverly Hills because you never know who' you'll see there. A few days ago I saw
Jon Lovitz! I was walking down Canon and saw him and smiled, and he looked pissed, but mouthed "hi". I felt pretty cool

So my awesome roommate Amanda knows how to make amazing gormet cupcakes, and her and I made some on Sunday night and had some people over!. They were chocolate cupcakes with a peanut butter ball in the middle, with peanut butter frosting. She's amazing. It was also my sister Christina's 27th birthday!

Monday night my roommate Emmely and I went and saw The Neighbors and The Vibrant Sound and at a house party. They were in town on tour and stopped by for a house party. They both sounded amazing, and we played opposite charades afterwards, so much fun!! Check them out:
http://www.facebook.com/#!/TheVibrantSound
http://www.facebook.com/#!/theneighborshood
If you think he looks like Clark Kent, you should see him in person
So my mom and I went to a Jonas Brothers concert and had pretty good seats. They came out and had a girl with them that looked like she was going to sing with them, but then they let the crowd know that she could be one of us! She wasn't going to sing with them, one of us could! So the three of them went into the crowd looking for the girl they wanted to have on stage with them. When no one was by Nick, I went up to him and he looked at me and reached for my hand and said I was the girl. I guess my mom had talked to him beforehand about me and gelato or something? Idk. So i get hooked up on this chair and the three of them get back onstage and pointed at me in the chair, which was in the air and said I was the one, and all the girls were sad. Then I was on stage with Nick and he was singing to me. It was FANTASTIC!
So this was a great dream, and I think it came from my new idea about how I can get to do Nick's hair, and me watching their old youtube vids last night (i haven't done that for a while) watch J Biebs movie Never Say Never where he always has a girl that comes on stage during his concert and he sings to her, and my  mom always talking to people and getting me connections.

Sunny in LA today:)

Paradise, and Vegas

Reasons 1-5:
Wow. So you could say Santa Monica is paradise! Last Monday, I rode my roommate's bike to the Pier, on the pier! I didn't even know that was legal. It was a sunny, 75 degree weather day, and I rode down Broadway, smiling at people in my shorts, short sleeved shirt, and sandals. All of that on the 5th of February. Everyone is so nice, and the street is so cute! I rode all the way to the Pier, sat on a bench looking out at the ferris wheel and ocean, and pulled out a nice can of A&W.

Reason 6: Shopping- but who cares cause i'm poor
Dear H&M, Forever 21, Charolette Russe, and Pink Berry,
It has always been my dream to practically be next door neighbors with you, especially after living in Rexburg, Idaho where they don't believe in shopping. I am so glad we'll be spending plenty of window shopping time together. And to some new favorites, Cotton CO, Love Culture, and Anthropology, It has been a pleasure getting to know you, and I am excited for our future relationship!

Reason 7: FOOD
Dear Boys in my ward,
I'm not interested in dating, but if you feel like taking a girl out to eat, i'm pretty cool. I love Thai, Itialian (gelato!), Mexican, Chinese, Greek, Pink Berry, and pretty much everything i've seen in LA!

Reason 8: Hot Foreign Men
Today some hot guy with a nice accent and sexy eyebrows (yes i know, but i really love good eyebrows) straightened my hair today at the outdoor mall (which by the way has a bloomingdales and nordstrom, i'm surrounded by wealthy suckers) anyway, he was selling straightners and wanted me to buy one, so of course he was being flirty. But then he gave me his number, which i pretended to save, but come on, do i look like i want to be raped? Especially on Valentine's day? no.

Reason 9: Cool People
I have THE BEST roommates in the world!!!!
The Santa Monica 3rd Ward has got to be the best thing. There are so many awesome people with cool jobs! Some occupations: Artist for the Simpsons, Dancing With The Stars dancer, TV Show editor, and the list goes on and on!! Also, the activites are way fun, like last monday we made floats. Rootbeer and real ones. They're great

CAPER
Talk about being in the right place at the right freaking time!! So, Caper is a Paul Mitchell event for students who sell a 45 bags or product in a certain amount of time. ( i sold enough bags before I graduated so I got to go)  You get to go to Vegas and learn from the best of the best and take classes. These stylists are like celebrities to us, (and a few of them do celebrity hair). Anyway, so there is this thing called Opening session where Paul Mitchell brings in all of the top stylists who we love, motivational speakers, there is a cool hair show, etc. I went last year and got in line early and got an amazing seat. So this year I wanted to do the same thing. I couldn't remember what time we lined up last year (opening session starts at noon) so I got there at 7am. Just minutes after I begin waiting in line (no one else was there waiting yet) Takashi, one of the top stylists walked by!

And then George Morales!

So I was pretty dang excited about that, when a few minutes later this girl comes walking out of the VIP area where the stylists were getting models ready for the show. (its impossible to get back there) She comes up to me and asked if I was a Future Professional (aka Paul Mitchell student) I said yes, and she then asked if I would be a model for Scott Cole (one of the stylists!!) His model hadn't shown up, and they were looking for someone with short blond hair. I love Scott Cole, and met him at the Signature Gathering in July, so of course I said yes! I automatically went from waiting in line for this huge show, waiting to see all my mentors on stage, to being in the same room and on stage with them for a few hours! I walk back and Scott comes up to me and was soo nice

Then all the sudden Doug Christensen is washing and blowdrying my hair

And I'm surrounded my all of my mentors!

Than Angus was walking around with his shirt off, but I didn't capture that photo. Basically this was all amazing, and I got to go do rehersals with all of the real models, and hangout with the famous Emma Long

Sadly, Scott's model showed up, but I still had a ton fun, and got my spot back in line. This was great because Donny and Marie came and performed, Fran Dresher came and talked, Betty White did a special video for us, Kathy Buckly came and spoke, and many more amazing people:)

I got a message after opening session, asking if I would be Scott and Linda's model the next day for classes!! And I said yes, of course:)
But first, the White Party. Here are some of my favorites with mentors/friends
This is Brent Wedin from the Angus M salon in Beverly Hills. He cut my hair in August when I went and shadowed at the salon

You may recognize Lucie Doughty from my first blog post. I did a photoshoot with her in September
 Mr. Angus Mitchell <3
LaDonna!! She calls me Mrs. Jonas lol
Call time was 5am, and the day was soo much fun!!! Not to mention I got to keep all of the product used for the models (including color, pm shines, color shots, develolper clear, cream, every level, shampoos, and hair product!!! Moral of the story, be early, be at the right place at the right time, be a visionary.

Good News:
My neighbor is in my ward, graduated from Paul Mitchell in Salt Lake, and is my age (everyone here is 25 and older, which isn't bad, but its nice to have someone your age)

Scottie and I went to see Never Say Never and it was awesome
Stay tuned, as soon as I figure out how to post vidoes, I have a treat for you!!

So I guess you can call me a local

Our Drive:
Yay I made it! On Saturday, mom and I began the last leg of our drive to Santa Monica, where I was going to check out an apartment. On the drive there, I butt-called Anush! She’s so nice and asked me to come in that same day! YAY! So we rushed to the apartment, and got there a little after 10am. I loved it!

I’m A Local- My Cool Apartment:
My soon-to-be roommate is soo nice! The apartment is just a short bike ride from the beach, and Pier! Such a great location, and just 6 miles from Beverly Hills, which will make it great for work. Oh, and Venice beach and Malibu is a two mile bike ride from the Santa Monica Pier, what the heck!! :) The only catch is I can’t officially move in until around the 26th, but my roommates are awesome and will let me sleep on the couch. I told Anush I would be to the salon around noon, so before I could unpack anything, we rushed to Beverly Hills.

Beverly  Hill-Billy:
We pull up on North Cannon Drive, Beverly Hills in my 2004 Blue Subaru Outback with my JONAS 2040 bumper sticker, and my whole car completely packed with everything I brought with me (which is not a lot, I had NO furniture) but enough to fill the car, not to mention the car isn’t too clean from the long drive.
I was still in my travel clothes, so I changed my shirt really fast as we began driving down North Cannon Drive. I then took off my pants, just in time to slowly pass some hot model guy wearing hot Ray Bans.. cool. I stopped changing for a second, acting like I had pants on, then as soon as he looked away the change quickly continued. I had my mom pull past the salon, of course so no one could see me getting out of my awesome ride. You know when your mom licks her thumb and tries to wipe something off your face? Well, she didn’t do that, but she did make me come semi-back into the car after I stepped out so she could pull fuzz or lint or hair off of me, as the now two hot model guys with ray bans watched.. cool. I get out and walk into the salon like nothing happened.

The Salon was awesome, and of course Anush was busy. She had 3 guests at one time! Probably because it takes her less than an hour to do highlights- which, if you’ve gotten your hair done by me, you know it can sometimes take a bit longer..:) I love assisting her, she has so many cool techniques and everyone loves her work!
I mentioned before that Anush does hair for the Hiltons. She also does hair for their aunt and her friends.. well, Fey (her client) is signing on for The Real Houswives of Beverly Hills, and I assist Anush.. and that is all I am going to say about that;)

The Pier:
My awesome driver picked me up after 6 and we went to the Santa Monica Pier finally! YAY!! It is soo cool! We went to Bubba Gumps (Jen and Bri, I mentioned that to rub it in your faces for disposing of my Nick Jonas poster) and it was yummy:)

Note: Like I mentioned, I have NO furniture, and my room isn’t furnished.. soo if you are driving to California soon, and happen to have an extra, bed, mattress, and dresser, I’ll tell you where to find me:)!

How everything came to be

After graduating high school I went straight to costmetology school (just a break before I went to college) thinking it would be a good stay-at-home mom job one day. My first day at the The Hair Academy a Paul Mitchell Partner School, I found out hair doesn't have to be out of a salon, you can do it for fashion, photoshoots, and most importantly, film. Growing up, thanks to Hilary Duff I had always wanted to be a Disney Channel Star. Obviously that didn't work out, so I thought maybe I can do hair for one.. From that moment on I made sure I took every possible opportunity Paul Mitchell had to offer me, going to Vegas a few times for hands on classes and conventions, contacting their high up sources. Luckily for me, I chose a cosmetology school that is well respeceted and connected within the beauty industry.

The last week I ended up in Beverly Hills on vacation. I went to check out Paul Mitchell Headquarters where one thing lead to another and I ended up assisting Nicole Richie's hairstylist for a day in a salon in LA. I thought it was insane, where then the very next day I was able to assist at the Angus M salon (son of Paul Mitchell) in Beverly Hills! In the Paul Mitchell world, Angus M is HUGE! After assisting there, my driver (mom) picked me up and we went down the street to the Beverly Hills diner, where of course my mom started up a random conversation with a stranger about how great the food was. Did I mention this random stranger does hair extensions for Paris and Nikki Hilton, the Kardashians, and Victoris Secret Models? Just to name a few. She gave me her card and asked me to assist her!! I know right! What the heck? The next time I was in LA I was going to contact her.

About a month later, my mom came to visit in Rexburg, Idaho, where I was attending Paul Mitchell. I had been e-mailing some of my contacts, like Lucie Doughty who does photoshoot for several magazines and celebrities. She works with the Paul Mitchell company. In the e-mail I asked again, like I had in the past, if she had anything going on that I could assist her with. I usually got an answer like "not yet, keep in touch!" But this time she let me know that there was a shoot coming up in a week that I could assist her with!! Just less than one week. My mom was leaving to go home in just a few days, and I was still in school, broke. Luckily, I have the most supportive mom in the world, and she figured everything out for me. She resqusduled things at home, so that she could take another 8 days out of her life to help me get the best experiences I could.

We ended up driving to California a couple days later. I contacted Anush, who does the extensions, and assisted her for a day in her salon in Beverly Hills. The next day assisted Lucie with the photoshoot, and it was AMAZING! It was my first real photoshoot with a real set  and real models, real wardrobe (who had to leave early to do a fitting with Brittany Snow, nbd) real makeup artisits, photographers, etc. It was amazing, another nice 12 hour day, but so fun!

I flew back to Rexburg the next day, and my mom drove home. I graduated from Paul Mitchell in December, and in January went to the Sundance Film Festival, where I was the hairstylist for Park City TV. I not only did hair for the hosts of the morning shows, but also the celbs that came in for their interviews! My favorite was when John Paul and Eloise came in, and I touched up their hair. It was so funny doing their hair because JP would talk at those huge events i'd go to in vegas, and I admired him so much! Now he was sitting in my chair, and I was touching up HIS hair!! What the heck!! Another favorite was Ethan from LOST. I got to powder his face! That was pretty exciting. I met a ton of contacts at Sundance incluing Demian, who is a producer and director, filmaker, etc., from LA. He's worked on multiple movies, music videos, etc. His latest that he was at Sundance promoting is called Discover The Gift. It is about discovering your gift, and being your best self. I got to know Demian and his team, and now will be working with them on other projects! I met several other filmakers as well who have invited me to jump on board with them too. Which is where I am now, packing up my summer clothes and on my way to beginning my journey in LA
